A Poem A Day: April 26, 2015 Bird Hands by Stephanie Strange

A Poem A Day: April 26, 2015
Bird Hands by Stephanie Strange

I am happy to share this short and powerful poem with you. There is so much that I appreciate about it.

It feels quite heave reading it traditionally from the top to the bottom and the confusion of the message adds to the weight. Upon reversal, from the bottom to the top, the poem actually lifts the reader up as it rises. By the time ‘everything’ is read the shape of the bird with spread wings is taking flight or the it is the shape of hands opening in the shape of offering. The last three words seem to flutter away into lightness.

The idea of having hands that are birds  says one is too busy enjoying flying to gather possessions and/or baggage that can occupy them and keep them grounded. The letting go is an offering to life, of wanting to live. I really adore this poem and am thankful that it came to me to write it down.
